Artswave was born out of the belief in the spiritual, social and economic value of culture to the individual and community and the project has been given life led by grant aid under the European Regional Development's Fund INTERREG programme which is aimed at strengthening inter-regional cooperation.
Wales and Ireland have a common Celtic root and have been neighbours since time immemorial. Their rich and diverse cultures have developed over many centuries and through this project we aim to create new opportunities that will not only help ensure we keep our cultural traditions but that we also build on them to determine a better, more colourful, more balanced and caring society that firmly believes in the great value of culture. Our events focus on the quieter times of the year, which is for many when our countries are at their best. Of course one of the beauties of culture, in the main, is that it knows no season.
INTERREG IIIA is a Community Initiative which promotes cross-border, transnational and inter-regional co-operation in the European Union and its border regions. INTERREG IIIA supports joint Irish/Welsh projects with the aim of promoting the sustainable development of the cross-border region through an integrated approach to economic, social and environmental development.
